Creating Community Over (Virtual) Coffee

From across the nation, AVANGRID interns are hard at work- learning the in’s and out’s of how an energy company operates, and building bonds along the way. AVANGRID’s Human Resources interns and others have found ways to collaborate and build relationships virtually.
They came together virtually for coffee and conversation bringing a core AVANGRID value, collaboration, to life. Each HR intern has had a different experience with AVANGRID which offered an opportunity for collaboration with “like-minded scholars interested in creating an impact amongst the various avenues of Human Resources,” explained Amanda Foster.
Amanda, a returning intern, sees opportunity to form relationships with fellow interns that support accomplishing results. This idea led Briana Squires to suggest a virtual HR Interns chat to connect everyone as they navigate their virtual internships. She recalled what fellow intern Sasha Lopez shared, “We are all not alone in this.”
Seasoned interns, Srihita Mediboina and Teneya McLaughlin emphasized to the group the greatness of what got Amanda to know these two talented peers in the summer of 2020: a simple virtual “coffee chat,” they expanded this idea beyond the 1 on 1 calls to recently bringing together more individuals with common ground. This opportunity led the five interns to also meet another intern, Alex Mocarski, who is interested in Human Resources, but learning project management this summer.
Once everyone was on the call, Alex kicked off the conversation asking what everyone was working on and then the time flew by. The group enjoyed the conversation so much that Sasha suggested taking a picture to highlight the new group of friends within the AVANGRID community. It’s a reminder to them that they now have a safe place to have chats, ask questions about intern projects, graduate education and more. The call showed to the interns that opportunities are endless to have a causal chat to form connections to help support one another whether it is sitting around computer screens or truly around cups of coffee.
