AVANGRID is celebrating Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Meet Lin Luo, senior analyst in investment and business performance at Avangrid Renewables.
What do you like about working at AVANGRID?
I work with a lot of kind and intelligent people; I am learning a lot from them. I am also super proud to be in the renewable industry.
Is there anything you would like to share about your heritage?
China has exceptionally rich culture and some aspects of Confucianism shaped who I am today. Confucianism is highly hierarchical and paternal. Modesty is highly regarded. The core principles of Confucianism are peace, balance, and harmony. Compromising and self-sacrifice are high virtues. In the Chinese social circle, we are accustomed to using high-context communication: it is a very indirect way of communicating with people. I learned that this inherent cultural difference can absolutely create roadblocks for effective communications in a global workforce.
I also want to share my fond memories of holidays we celebrate in China. We celebrate different holidays with great emphasis on family value. My favorites are Chinese lunar new year, dragon boat festival, and mid-autumn festival.
What does AAPI month mean to you?
Personally, it means to acknowledge and reflect. It reminds me to acknowledge and appreciate my Asian heritage.
How do you feel about AVANGRID’s commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)?
I am excited to know the company is celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander month. Advancing workplace diversity is more important today than ever before. It is great to see AVANGRID’s leadership is committed to making a difference in the workplace.
Who or what inspires you?
I am inspired by courage and simplicity. The courage of ordinary people dealing with daily challenges in life; and simplicity we choose to lead our life, so we can focus on things that are most important for us.
What do you hope to accomplish in the years ahead?
This past year has really taught me to appreciate the simple things in our daily life. In the year ahead, I’d like to continue to be appreciative of things and people around me that brings me simple joy of life. And I’d like to give back more to community.
