AVANGRID’s new Purpose and Values recently debuted, and the “We Are AVANGRID” campaign spotlights employees who strive to make the purpose and values part of their work life.

The Purpose: Working together to deliver a more accessible clean energy model that promotes healthier, more sustainable communities every day. The Values: Sustainable. Agile. Collaborative.

Let’s meet Wayne Mays, Director of Engineering at Avangrid Renewables. He’s based in Portland, OR.

Q: How long have you been with AVANGRID?

A: 13 years with Avangrid Renewables.

Q: What do you love about your job?

A: I enjoy working on a wide variety of renewable projects that include different technologies like wind, solar and storage with a great group of colleagues. This is a job where I am constantly learning. I think that the team of people I work with is the best I’ve been part of in my entire career!

Q: How would you sum up what you do?

A: I work in the team that provides engineering support to develop renewable projects.

Q: What do you see as the biggest opportunity in your role?

A: I am part of a development team that works together to create a project – literally inventing a project where none existed. If we are innovative and creative, we can build tremendous value for the company and the community.

Q: How do you live our values in your everyday work?

A: I am involved in very innovative renewables projects which by their design, support a sustainable energy future for our country. This is an extremely competitive business and requires our very best to create projects and products that meet customers’ needs better than our competitors. Only through working collaboratively with our team to understand customers’ needs, best deploy technology and execute business plans can we be successful. Changes in customer needs, technology, environmental and regulatory requirements and public policy demand that we be agile in understanding and adapting to market conditions.
