Where We Once Worked

It’s Throwback Thursday. We dug into the archives for a few photos from years gone by at our UIL companies, United Illuminating, Southern CT Gas & CT Natural Gas, highlighting just a few of the buildings we once occupied in the communities we still serve.

The United Illuminating Company moves out of its old New Haven headquarters on Temple Street in 1992. The building’s still there, at the corner of Crown Street, but it has since found another tenant. (Hint: It’s a good place to catch the latest flick.)

Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation’s customer newsletter documents the planned implosion of the company’s former headquarters on Columbus Boulevard in Hartford in 2001. CNG’s offices are now across the river, in East Hartford.
Before there was a Berkshire Gas Company, there was the Pittsfield Coal Gas Company, founded in 1853 to serve the growing Western Massachusetts city. A century later, in 1954, it merged with the Berkshire Gas Company and adopted its name. It’s still located in Pittsfield.
