Pine Tree Camp in Maine (#AVANgives 2019)

Andrew Haughey, Central Maine Power’s Lead Waste Material Handler, first came from the U.K to Maine to work at the Pine Tree Camp in 1990. There he made lifelong friendships (including meeting his wife!) and has continued to make support for Pine Tree Camp a family affair ever since.
Pine Tree Camp, a branch of the Pine Tree Society, first opened its gates in 1945 in Rome, Maine as a therapy-oriented summer camp for children with physical disabilities. Known for continuously innovating to meet the needs of people with a wide range of disabilities, today Pine Tree Camp has evolved into a place where children and adults are able to participate in all the recreational activities for which Maine is known – camping, hiking, swimming and more – all year round in a barrier-free setting focused on community-building and making the otherwise impossible possible.
