A Message from CMP President and CEO Joe Purington: I’m Happy to be Home

Dear Valued Customer,
The year 2020 tested our collective grit and resiliency, and I know many of us came into 2021 looking forward to fresh starts and new beginnings. For me, I was able to find my fresh start in a familiar place. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be back home in Maine, where I was born and raised, leading Central Maine Power as president and CEO.
In the 28 years I worked at CMP where I started my career, and then as President of Operations at Eversource in NH, I have developed an in-depth understanding of the unique needs and challenges our electric system faces here in New England. I’m excited to be back in Maine working alongside a team of dedicated Mainers who are ready to tackle those challenges. This year, we’ve accomplished so much:
- We’ve announced organizational changes designed to strengthen and support local management here at CMP, while leveraging the resources and support of the larger AVANGRID organization.
- We’ve continued to invest in the grid, finding new and innovative ways to modernize and prepare it for a clean energy future.
- We’ve demonstrated our commitment to you by meeting and exceeding stringent customer service standards including answering your calls within 30 seconds and delivering your bill accurately and on time.
- We’ve invested over $900,000 into our communities through our support of dozens of charitable organizations, volunteered at countless community events, and participated in fundraisers throughout the state.
But we aren’t stopping there.
CMP will continue to modernize the grid, playing our part as Maine works to meet its aggressive clean energy goals.
With energy supply rates on the rise and a tough economic environment, we remain committed to lending our support whenever and wherever we can. Call us to see how we can help.
There is so much to look forward to in 2022. We have worked hard to improve our approach to problem solving as we strive to be even better community and industry partners. I hope our customers have recognized these improvements, which we will further enhance and build upon in the coming year. I am inspired by my team at CMP every day and remain driven to deliver on our critical mission of providing the safe, reliable electric service Mainers expect and deserve.
Have a safe and happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Joseph A. Purington
President and CEO, Central Maine Power
